There are periodic health fairs in many communities that offer free screenings. In my area, some private non-profits do this, and a local university and the county goverment have done this in the past. But, the services are are just offered when there is an event scheduled. So more than likely, you are going to have to check around for information on local events if you want to find a free screening.
    I would check three places:
First, with your local community health department.
Second, try your local chapter of the American Diabetes Association (which you can find by calling 1-800-DIABETES/1-800-342-2383 or visiting the website http://www.diabetes.org).
Finally, if the “211″ telephone service has been established in your area, it is a good way to get a referral for information like this (non-emergency social services). Not every place has 211 service yet so you’ll have to check by trying to dial that number if you don’t know whether your area has that service.

Try your local health department. The only other choice is going to your family doctor and paying.

You should really go to your doctor to get tested…..But you can test yourself by using a home tester……..You can buy a cheap one from Walgreen’s or Walmart…I happen to own a diabetic mail order supply company and If you like I could send you a Meter Kit…it comes with a lancing device and lancets and a box of 10 strips…that should be plenty for you to check with to see how your sugar is running……you can email me at buckieoutdoors@yahoo.com
